In 1975 Carol and Art Propp opened Carol's Chair Boutique at 108 Main Street in Sterling Colorado. They sold different styles of chairs, mirrors, and wall décor. La-Z-Boy was their primary supplier and still is today. As the business grew and expanded, they morphed into a full-fledged furniture store. Art and Carol soon realized their store wasn't big enough to hold their business. In 1988 they bought 109 Main Street directly across the street from their store and used both stores as a functioning business. They started selling sofas, loveseats, and mattresses.

With the growth of the business and the addition of a second building, they realized they were going to need help and what better help to get than family. In 1988, they brought on their daughter Lori Armstrong to become the new sales manager, making the business at the time a second-generation business. With her hiring came a plethora of new ideas and personality to the store. She helped decorate, sell, manage, and even bring on new employees. For the next 10 years until 1998 Carol, Art, and Lori ran a successful business until Art unexpectedly passed away. His passing left a huge void to be filled, so in 1999, they brought on Jay Armstrong, Lori's husband.

In 2000, Lori hired Jack Clark to help deliver furniture and he still works for Carol's today. In 2003, after the passing of Carol, Lori and Jay became co-owners of Carol's Chair Boutique. Jay and Lori decided it was time to have the business in one building again. With the closing of Lori and Jay's skating rink in 2011, they moved their furniture store to the large building at 322 Poplar Street. With the move, they decided to tweak the name to better represent all their products. After some thought, they started doing business as Carol's Furniture and Sleep Shop.

In 2010 Lori hired Kelly Winter who, like Jack, is currently working for the business. In January of 2021, Jay and Lori needed help running their business and just like Lori's parents, they welcomed family. They brought in their son Tyson Armstrong to follow in his mother's footsteps and become the new sales manager, making this business into a third-generation business. In 2022 they hired their grandson Zachary Armstrong to help with various tasks around the business. Carol's has been in business for 48 years and has always been family owned and operated.

Carol's is the largest La-Z-Boy comfort studio in Northeast Colorado. They also sell other brands like Best Home Furnishings and Simmons Beauty rest mattresses. These brands help them serve and bring happiness to the community with great quality and pricing. The business prides itself on customer service. When you walk in you can expect a personalized no pressure experience to help you find the perfect item of furniture missing from your home or replace an old piece that needs upgrading. They offer financing, delivery, and customer special orders to make every purchase easy and affordable.
